Movement Research

I was brought in to design movement for the world-premiere of "Mockingbird" at The Kennedy Center.
This show, about an autistic girl, Caitlin, posed exciting movement challenges. The play is told from Caitlin's point of view. I worked closely with the lead actress to design a movement vocabulary that would lead to a nuanced, specific, physical performance. Her ticks, stims, tantrums, and gestures of relaxation, as well as walking patterns, were all considered.
The chorus' actions were stylized to reflect Caitlin's perception of the world as well as to magnify her internal state.
